Bacterial vaginosis is a condition that happens when there is a change in the normal balance between the "good and "bad" bacteria in the vagina.
What causes BV?
The cause of BV is unknown, but it typically occurs in sexually active women. New sex partner or multiple sex partners, and douching, can upset the PH balance in the vagina, thus causing BV.
Signs and Symptoms
Many women with BV show no symptoms, but if symptoms do occur, it may resemble:
- A thin white or gray vaginal discharge
- Pain, itching, or burning in the vagina
- Burning with urination
- Itching around the vagina
- A strong fish-like odor, especially after sex
